Jayson Tatum has signed a five-year, $195 million maximum contract extension with the Boston Celtics, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The contract begins with the 2021–22 season and includes a player option for the 2025–26 season.
Tatum, 22, was the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and has been an integral part of the Celtics’ success since then. He averaged 23.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game last season, and was an All-Star for the first time in 2020.
The new deal makes Tatum one of the highest-paid players in the NBA, and it ensures that he will remain in Boston for the foreseeable future. The Celtics are now in position to contend for a championship for the next five years with a star-studded core of Tatum, Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart.
